Is this just a theme, or is it a fully working alarm clock?

Both.  The Steampunk Alarm Clock runs on the same engine as our standard alarm clock — 25 scheduled alarms, Ping Me instant reminders, 50 alarm sounds, color-coded display transitions, and a saveable setup.  The steampunk theme is the visual layer on top of a fully capable scheduling tool.

Can I change the background image to something else?

Yes.  Open Advanced Settings and paste in a URL to any web-accessible image to replace the steampunk background.  You can set different images for light and dark modes independently.  The steampunk theme is the default here, but the clock will display whatever background you point it to.

Can I change the amber time color to something else?

Yes.  The time display color is fully settable in Advanced Settings — independently for light and dark modes.  Individual alarms in the schedule can also override the default color at their trigger time, so the display shifts to a different color when each alarm fires.

Can I use this as a stream overlay?

Yes.  The alarm clock is browser-based and can be captured as a browser source in OBS or similar tools.  For a clean overlay, use Advanced Settings to enable Chroma Key support — set the background to a solid color (green or blue) and key it out in your streaming software, leaving just the time display and title floating over your scene.

How do I set up alarms on the steampunk clock?

Click the Alarms button in the action bar at the bottom of the clock.  Enter a time in any natural format — 2pm, 14:00, noon, 930 — and select a sound.  Optionally add a display color, a clock title, repeat cycles, and volume for that alarm.  Everything saves automatically.  Use Clean Up Alarms to sort and tidy the schedule if entries get out of order.

Can I build my own themed clock starting from this one?

Absolutely — that's exactly the point.  Open Advanced Settings and start adjusting:background image, time color, title color, font, size, shadow, and more.  When you have it the way you want, click the create link icon to generate a shareable link with your full custom setup encoded.  Bookmark it and your clock is one click away every time you open the browser.
