Free Online Count Up Timer
A count up timer measures how long something takes — starting from zero and running forward until you stop it. This one arrives
pre-set to count from 0:00 to 10 minutes, ready to start with one click. Set any stop time you need, or leave it open-ended and stop the timer manually when the event is done.
Where a countdown tells you how much time you have left, a count up timer tells you how much time you have used. That distinction matters — elapsed time is the right measurement for meetings that run variable lengths, activities you want to record, tasks you want to benchmark, or any event where the end point is unknown in advance.
What to Use a Count Up Timer For
Count up timers suit any situation where the duration is unknown, open-ended, or needs to be recorded:
- Meetings and calls — See exactly how long a meeting has actually run. A count up display on a shared screen is a more honest signal than a countdown — it shows elapsed cost, not remaining budget.
- Task benchmarking — How long does it actually take to complete a specific task? Start the timer, do the work, stop it when done. Repeat over several sessions to get a reliable baseline.
- Athletic and fitness events — Time a run, a swim, a cycling interval, or a set. Count up is the natural format for athletic timing where you're recording a result, not counting down to a limit.
- Speeches and presentations — Monitor how long a speaker has been talking without imposing a hard limit. Useful for practice sessions where the goal is to find the natural length of a talk rather than hit a fixed target.
- Laboratory and research timing — Elapsed time measurement for experiments, observations, or procedures where the duration needs to be recorded accurately.
- Customer service and response times — Time how long a customer interaction, support call, or service task takes. Useful for training, benchmarking, or identifying bottlenecks.
- Kids and games — How fast can you solve the puzzle, finish the course, or complete the challenge? A count up timer makes any activity into a personal best competition.
- Open-ended work sessions — Start the timer when you begin a task and stop it when you're done. Over time, elapsed time records tell you where your hours actually go.
Time Display Formats
The Count Up Timer defaults to 0:00 format — a clean, serious elapsed time display that expands naturally as time
accumulates. Timer123 supports eight display formats to suit different use cases:
0— Single digit minimum, expanding as needed. Displays5at 5 seconds,10at 10 seconds,1:00at one minute. The most compact format — used by the standard timer as its default.00— Two digit minimum. Always shows at least two digits, expanding at 60 seconds and again at one hour.-
0:00— Minutes and seconds minimum, single digit hours. The Count Up Timer default. Clean and readable for most elapsed time use cases. 00:00— Minutes and seconds minimum, two digit hours. Useful when consistent display width matters — on a projected screen or shared display where layout shift is distracting.0:00:00— Hours, minutes, and seconds minimum, single digit hours. Good for long sessions where the hour count matters from the start.00:00:00— Hours, minutes, and seconds minimum, two digit hours. Maximum width stability for long-running displays.-
0 secs only— Displays total elapsed seconds only, no colons. Three minutes shows as180. Useful for athletic timing, scientific measurement, or any context where total seconds is the meaningful unit. -
00:00 mins &secs only— Displays minutes and seconds only, stripping hours entirely. One hour thirty minutes thirty seconds shows as90:30. Useful for production timing, coaching, or any session where total minutes and seconds is more useful than an hours display.
Count Up Timer — Common Questions
Does this timer work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The Count Up Timer works on any modern browser across desktop, mobile, and tablet. The display scales automatically to fit your screen size.
Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?
For reliable audio, keep the timer visible in an active browser tab with the window not minimized. Browsers may throttle or mute background tabs, which can affect alarm playback. If the alarm matters, keep the tab in view.
Can I set an alarm at a specific elapsed time?
Yes. Set the stop time in the action bar to the elapsed time at which you want the alarm to sound — for example 00:45:00 for 45 minutes. The timer counts up and the alarm fires when it reaches that value. Leave the
stop time at zero if you want the timer to run open-ended with no alarm.
Can I switch between count up and countdown without retyping?
Yes. Click the swap button between the start and stop time fields in the action bar to instantly reverse the two values. If the start time is lower than the stop time the timer counts up;if the start time is higher it counts down. One click switches direction without retyping anything.
Does pausing the timer lose any elapsed time?
No. Pausing preserves the exact elapsed time. When you press Start again the count up resumes from precisely where it stopped — important when elapsed time accuracy matters for benchmarking or recording.
How do I share this timer setup with my team?
Configure the timer — start time, stop time, alarm, display format, title — then click the icon under the time display and copy the URL shown. Anyone who opens that link loads your exact count up configuration, ready to start with one click.
