Free Online 30 Minute Timer
Our 30-Minute Timer is setup to start with one click. Thirty minutes is the backbone of productive schedules. Long enough for meaningful work, short enough to maintain focus and urgency. When thirty minutes are up, alarm sounds and you're done.
Our timing engine counts down using elapsed time rather than interval loops, keeping your 30 minute timer on time even when your browser is under load.
What Can You Do in 30 Minutes?
Thirty minutes is a productive interval across work, fitness, cooking, and daily routines:
- Gym and fitness sessions — A 30-minute cardio block, circuit training session, or focused strength workout. Set a motivating alarm sound and use keyboard shortcuts to start without touching the screen.
- Cooking and oven checks — Roasting vegetables, baking a tray of cookies, or checking a slow braise. Thirty minutes is a common oven interval in everyday cooking.
- Half-time breaks — Whether coaching youth sports or running a game night, a visible 30-minute countdown keeps the break honest and gets everyone back on time.
- Focused reading or research — Block out 30 minutes for deep reading without interruption. A calm alarm sound at the end signals time to surface and take a break.
- Client calls and consultations — Keep a 30-minute call on track without watching the clock. Display the timer where you can see it. Set a gentle alarm and stay present in the conversation.
- Classroom exams and timed assessments — Display full-screen on a projector so every student can see how much time remains without having to ask.
- Naps and rest — Thirty minutes sits at the upper edge of a restorative nap before deep sleep sets in for most people. Set a gentle alarm to wake up to.
Customize Your 30 Minute Timer
One click starts it as-is, but we give you control when you want it. Open Settings to adjust:
- Loop — When the timer reaches zero it immediately resets and starts again. Ideal for back-to-back work sessions or repeated 30-minute fitness blocks without any manual intervention.
- Auto Restart — Changes how the Reset button and Escape key behave. With Auto Restart setting on, pressing Reset stops the timer, resets it to 30:00, and immediately begins counting down again, so restarting a session takes one keypress rather than two.
- Background image — Set a custom background image for light and dark modes independently. A focused workspace photo, a calming landscape, or a team logo.
- Alarm sound and cycles — Choose from 50+ built-in sounds and tunes, or link to your own MP3. Set the alarm to ring multiple times so the end of a work session or cooking interval is hard to miss even if you're across the room.
- Keyboard shortcuts — Assign Start, Stop, and Reset to keys of your choice. Start a 30-minute session without touching the mouse, or reset mid-session from the keyboard.
- Timer title — Label the session — "Deep Work", "Cardio", "Client Call", "Exam". The title saves with your configuration so a shared link arrives ready to use.
- Save and share your setup — Configure once, then save and copy the URL via the icon under the timer display. Share the link and your team or class loads just what you set it up as.
30 Minute Timer — Common Questions
Does this timer work on phones and tablets?
Yes. The timer works on any modern browser across desktop, mobile, and tablet. The display scales to fit your screen size.
Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?
Yes — whether you minimize the browser window or place the timer on another tab, alarms should sound.
What is the difference between Loop and Auto Restart?
Loop restarts the timer when it reaches zero. Auto Restart changes the behavior of the Reset button and Escape key:instead of stopping and waiting for you to press Start, a reset immediately begins counting down again. Loop is for continuous cycling; Auto Restart is for faster manual resets.
Can I set a background image on the timer?
Yes. Open Advanced Settings and set a background image for light mode, dark mode, or both independently. Paste in a URL to any web-accessible image file.
How do I share this timer with my class or team?
Configure the timer — alarm, title, display, loop settings — then click the icon under the time display and copy the URL shown. Anyone who opens that link loads the time just as you set it up.
