Free Online 60 Minute Timer

One hour is the fundamental unit of scheduled time — the block that meetings, classes, appointments, and work sessions are built around.  One click starts this timer instantly.  When sixty minutes are up, your alarm sounds and you're done.

Timer123's timing engine counts down using real elapsed time rather than interval loops, keeping your 60 minute timer accurate across the full hour even when your browser is under load.  Twenty years of online timer development went into getting that right.

What Can You Do in 60 Minutes?

An hour is a serious commitment of time — and a visible countdown makes every minute of it count:

  • Exam and test blocks — A one-hour timed exam, certification test, or practice session under real conditions.  Display full-screen so every student sees the countdown clearly without interrupting the room to ask how much time is left.
  • Full workout sessions — A complete strength training session, long run on the treadmill, or group fitness class.  Set a strong alarm to signal the end when you're deep into a set or out of earshot.
  • Client meetings and consultations — Keep a one-hour meeting on track without watching the clock.  A visible timer keeps everyone aware of the time without making it the focus of the conversation.
  • Cooking long intervals — Slow-roasting meat, making stock, baking sourdough, or timing a slow cooker check.  Set the alarm and leave the kitchen without worry.
  • Deep work and flow sessions — An uninterrupted hour of focused writing, coding, designing, or problem solving.  A hard end point makes it easier to commit fully to the work.
  • Language and music practice — A structured daily hour of deliberate practice with a clear start and end is one of the most effective ways to build long-term skill.
  • Escape rooms and games — The classic escape room runs exactly 60 minutes.  Display the countdown full-screen for an immersive in-person or virtual game experience.
  • Workshops and training sessions — Time a one-hour workshop segment, training module, or presentation slot with a clear alarm that signals the end for both presenter and audience.

Customize Your 60 Minute Timer

One click starts it as-is, but Timer123 gives you full control when you want it.  Open Settings to adjust:

  • Time display format — For a 60-minute countdown, displaying as 1:00:00 (hours, minutes, seconds) versus 60:00 (minutes, seconds) is a meaningful choice.  Select the format that makes the most sense for your audience and context.
  • Alarm sound and cycles — Choose from 50+ built-in sounds and tunes, or link to your own MP3.  For a full-hour session, set the alarm to ring multiple times so the end signal is unmistakable — whether you're across the building or deep in concentration.
  • Light and dark mode with background image — Set a custom background image for light or dark mode independently.  A focused workspace, a competition logo, or a calming scene — the time display stays sharp and readable over any background.
  • AutoRestart — With AutoRestart on, pressing Reset stops the timer, resets to 60:00, and immediately starts counting down again.  Useful for back-to-back one-hour sessions where a fast reset matters.
  • Start and stop time — The default counts from 60:00 to 0:00, but you can set any values you need.  Count from 1:00:00 to -0:10:00 to give a meeting a visible 10-minute overtime window, or from 0:00 upward to measure elapsed time instead.
  • Chroma key support — Set a custom solid background color to use the timer in video production with a chroma key workflow.  Overlay a clean countdown on any video background in post-production.
  • Save and share your setup — Configure once, then save and copy the URL via the icon under the timer display.  Share the link and your team or audience loads your exact configuration instantly.

60 Minute Timer — Common Questions

Does this timer work on phones and tablets?

Yes.  The timer works on any modern browser across desktop, mobile, and tablet.  The display scales automatically to fit your screen size.

Will the alarm sound if I switch to another tab?

For reliable audio, keep the timer visible in an active browser tab.  Browsers may throttle or mute background tabs, which can affect alarm playback.  If the alarm matters, keep the tab in view and the window not minimized.

Can it display the time as 1:00:00 instead of 60:00?

Yes.  Open Settings and select your preferred time format.  Displaying as hours, minutes, and seconds (1:00:00) gives a clearer sense of scale for a full-hour countdown, while minutes and seconds (60:00) keeps the display simpler.  Choose whichever works best for your audience.

Can I use this timer for an escape room?

Yes — it works well for that.  Display full-screen, set a dramatic alarm sound, and use a background image or color that fits the room's theme.  If you want a green-screen overlay for a virtual escape room, enable chroma key support by setting a solid background color.  Save and share the configured URL so your exact setup is ready for every game.

Can I use my own alarm sound?

Yes.  Paste a URL to an MP3 sound file hosted on the web into the alarm sound field.  The website hosting the sound file must have Cross-Origin Resource Sharing (CORS) enabled.  Use the Try link to confirm the sound before you start timing.

How do I share this timer with my class or team?

Configure the timer — alarm, title, display, loop settings — then click the icon under the time display and copy the URL shown.  Anyone who opens that link loads your exact setup, ready to start with one click.
